A Free Visit to a Mission
One of San Antonio’s famous missions is located just a few blocks from Blessed Sacrament Academy. Admission is free at this mission at 807 Mission Road, and the large grassy grounds with trees and bushes for shade offer plenty of room for socially distanced play and adventure. Read words on the plaques inside and outside to your toddler.
Even mobile infants can enjoy sensory learning. They can look at the frescos (paintings on walls), see shapes and hear sounds. Find free Junior Ranger booklets for kids inside.
The full name of this historic mission, built all the way back in 1731, is Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña. It’s a long series of words in Spanish for young toddlers, but it’s a fun introduction – especially if you sing the words to help young children follow along. If they can repeat one or even two words, or just try, praise their success. Praise from parents builds self-confidence. Self-confidence is an important foundation for later success at school.
The mission is open every day (not holidays) from sunrise to sunset. If your child is enrolled at the Child Development Center at Blessed Sacrament Academy, it’s a fun place to stop on the way home for healthy exercise, exploration and fun.
