Running Out of Books?
Reading books every day to infants and toddlers is important for teaching the fundamentals of literacy. Reading the same book over and over is actually good for toddlers, as they learn to recognize and pronounce words over time. But after months of pandemic lockdowns, some parents want different books to read to their babies and young children.
Older siblings can produce homemade picture books on plain pieces of paper, using pictures from cereal boxes, magazines, old greeting cards or their own drawings. Bind the pages with strong glue or staples along one edge. Ask a long-distance relative to create and mail a picture book with a few old photos and simple-to-read stories about those photos.
